Card Edge Cable Connector Assembly
Card edge cable connectors offer a compact form factor with a wide range of signal pins available and customization possibilities to meet specific requirements. The connectors also support hybrid configurations, catering to diverse needs. They can be used with mating boards of different thicknesses, such as 1.60mm and 2.36mm. The contact design is optimized to handle high-speed data rates of up to 32 Gb/s and targeted for 64 Gb/s
Features of Card Edge Cable Connectors
A Card edge cable connector consists of a cable end and a mating end. The mating end is mounted on the edge of a printed circuit board (PCB) and the cable end is connected to cables. Let us explore some of the features of Amphenol’s high-speed cable assembly range
- Standard Links: supporting X4, X8, and X16 to provide excellent performance and additional options for extreme bandwidth applications.
- High-speed pins that attach directly to raw cable and PCB to eliminate the PCB trace signal loss.
- Hybrid configurations allowing flexible power-signal combinations.
- Backward Mating capabilities following PCIe® CEM requirements.
- Environment and Safety: RoHS-compliant connectors and using low-halogen materials for added safety.
EDSFF E1/E3 High-Speed Cable Assembly
The EDSFF E1/E3 high-speed cable assembly is Amphenol’s unique card edge cable assembly which transmits power and high-speed signals via a cable. It directly connects to the main PC board supporting SSD and CXL or other modules.
The EDSFF 2-piece cable solution supports data rates up to PCIe® 5.0 at 32Gb/s. It features EDSFF standard interface Mini Cool Edge 1C/2C connectors on one end and provides flexibility in connector form factor selection on the other end, accommodating options such as Amphenol’s MCIO, Multi-Trak, and Backplane connectors.
The Gen 5 EDSFF orthogonal cable assembly finds application in various environments, especially heavy-duty and high-speed cable to replace backplane and multi-level PCB motherboard routing for PCIe® high-speed signals.
PCI Express® Gen 5 DirectAttached™ Cable Riser
Amphenol's PCIe® DirectAttached™ Cable Riser solution features a PCIe® DirectAttached™ CEM connector on one end, offering flexibility for various connections on the other end. It accommodates different PCB form factors such as MCIO, Multi-trak™, SlimSAS™, EDSFF, OCP NIC 3.0 SSD, Gen Z, and Backplane connectors.
The PCIe® DirectAttached™ cable riser solution supports data rates up to PCIe® 5.0 at 32Gb/s, reducing signal loss by replacing high-speed PCIe® traces on multi-layer motherboards with a high-speed cable.
This connector finds applications in many scenarios like data center server systems, GPU cards, PCIe® Riser cards, and accelerator cards. It is cost-saving and space-saving by removing the need for motherboard and riser card PCBs.
Double Density Cool Edge 0.80mm Connectors and Cable Assemblies
When it comes to high-speed, space-saving board to board connectors and board-to-cable connectors, this solution is the one to look out for. The 0.80mm pitch Double Density Cool Edge connector finds application in a variety of scenarios owing to its 2 rows of contacts. It is a hybrid connector that reduces the need for more than half of the PCB footprint it takes otherwise to form a similar connection. It supports PCIe® Gen 5 and supports multiple Add-In-Card thicknesses. It is very space-saving too, compared to most of the other card-edge connectors in the market.
