Open Compute Project, also known as OCP, is a community focused on redesigning hardware technology for hyper-scale data centers, telecom & colocation providers, enterprise IT users, and many more markets. OCP is a collaborative initiative launched in 2011 to design and share energy-efficient data center hardware designs, to improve computing efficiency, and reduce the environmental impact of data centers.

The OCP community designs and shares specifications for a range of data center equipment including servers, storage devices, networking switches, and racks. By making these designs open and freely available, OCP aims to drive innovation, reduce costs, and increase efficiency in data center operations. Today, OCP has grown to include more than 200 member organizations, including many of the world's largest technology companies, and its designs are widely used in data centers around the world.

OCP’s Rack and Power Project

The Rack & Power Project Group is the initial team to concentrate on creating rack standards specifically tailored for data centers, with a focus on integrating the rack into the broader data center infrastructure. This is in line with the Open Compute Project's "grid to gates" approach, which takes a comprehensive design approach that considers the interdependency of every element, from the power grid to the gates in the chips on each motherboard.

Amphenol's OCP Solutions

Amphenol is a member and a solution provider of OCP. We develop products that follow OCP guidelines and contain OCP Accepted™ and/or OCP Inspired™ marks. We provide high-speed connectors, power card edge connectors, power busbar connectors, and cable solutions for many OCP projects, allowing for standardized solutions and simple system designs.

Rack and Power Solutions

The rack and power specifications of OCP aim to simplify the distribution of power in racks, enabling scalable and efficient solutions that promote cost savings, easy implementation, and energy efficiency. To support these efforts, Amphenol provides a diverse range of plug-and-play OCP-compliant power interconnects that can be configured and customized, with current ratings ranging from 50A to 1000A.
