Wire to board connectors or PCB wire connectors can be explained as fundamental set of connectors to establish a connection between a wire and a printed circuit board (PCB). It includes a header and receptacle, either of which may be connected to a cable harness and the other attached to the board. The board portion of a wire-to-board connector will have pins soldered through-hole (SMT) style or surface mounted on the PCB to which the cable portion is mated to secure a connection. When it comes to wire-to-wire connectors, both male and female parts will be connected to wire harnesses or ribbon cables.

There are several factors that determine the quality of a wire to board connector system. Amphenol is an industry leading provider of robust, modular, and compact WTB connector solutions.

Available from 0.80mm to 2.54mm pitch, we offer a wide variety of pitch sizes to meet various application requirements. These PCB connectors can be widely grouped into signal and power wire to board connector types based on their function.

Amphenol's 1.20mm pitch wire-to-board connector system offers low profile and compact circuit board connectors with 3, 4 and 6 pin counts. These are polarized connectors that can prevent any misalignment between the PCB sockets and plugs. The 1.25mm pitch wire-to-board solutions are available in 2 to 15 circuits in single row and conform to the EU Industry Safety Standard. They have a range of terminals, crimp housings and PCB connector plugs in straight and right angle, surface-mount and through-hole configurations.

Minitek® is one of our legacy brands when it comes to board to board and wire/cable to board connectors. These modular and fine pitch wire to board solutions are available in 0.80mm, 1.00mm and 1.50mm pitch sizes with current ratings from 1A to 2A and wire sizes of 32AWG-24AWG. Minitek® 1.50mm pitch connectors include terminals, crimp housings and PCB headers in right angle and vertical surface-mount configurations in single row design. The Minitek 2.00mm pitch board connectors allows up to 38% space savings compared to traditional modular systems and comes with dual beam contact design ensuring a strong and reliable wire to PCB connection.

Apart from this, the Minitek® family includes Minitek127® Wire/Cable-to-Board Connector System, Minitek® Multipitch connectors, Minitek MicroSpace™ Crimp-to-Wire Connector and Minitek® Board-In in the signal connector range.

Available in straight and right angle, surface-mount and through-hole, Minitek 127 WTW and WTB connectors come with pin headers and board receptacles, customized stacking headers, and IDC versions. These circuit board to wire connectors accommodate a wire range up to 30AWG and are available in up to 100 positions.

The Minitek® Multipitch wire to board connectors are available in both 1.25mm and 1.50mm pitch sizes. Addressing the growing demand for miniaturizing components with a compact design, the TPA and CPA ensures proper circuit board connections. The LV214 Severity-2 compatible, Minitek MicroSpace™ crimp-to-wire connectors are offered in 1.27mm, 1.50mm and 1.80mm pitch sizes. These board mount connectors are ideal for automotive applications. Minitek Board-In is a one-piece direct solder-to-board PCB to wire connector that provides space and cost savings through its wire to PCB solder terminals. Offered in 2-16 positions under 2.00mm and 2.50mm pitch sizes these PCB connector types are ideal for applications in Consumer, Datacom, Industrial & Instrumentation and Automotive markets.

With a compact design and active latching, Cross-Mate™ series is a wire-to-board system ideal for applications requiring good mating retention with a current rating up to 4A. We also have the Quickie® 2.54mm pitch, which offers a comprehensive solution for flat cable-to-board connections. Available in both pin-in-paste (PiP) and direct IDC-to-board, one-piece versions, these circuit board pin connectors come with a four-walled design for pin protection and misalignment prevention. With a low profile and compact design, Griplet® offers a robust solution for miniature IDC wire-to-board connections. We also offer PV® connectors with beryllium copper spring ensuring high normal force at the mating interface, making them ideal for high density board to board, wire to board, wire to wire in demanding applications.

USCAR-T2V2-compatible FlexLock® 2.54mm FPC-to-Board connectors and WireLock® 1.80mm pitch wire-to-board connectors are two automotive wire-to-board connector systems, newly introduced to the WTB family.

AgilLink™ is another popular product series from Amphenol for wire to board headers. The AgilLink™ 2.5mm connector is the most common solution for transferring power and signal. These flexible shrouded wire-to-board headers are customizable and are available in additional pitch sizes of 1.20mm, 1.50mm, and 2.00mm.

In addition to these signal connectors, Amphenol also has a wide range of power wire-to-board connectors. Minitek Pwr® connectors are available in 3.0mm, 4.2mm and 5.7mm pitch sizes with current ratings up to 8.5A, 9A and 23A per circuit respectively. Both Minitek Pwr® 3.0 and 4.2 are available in high current and BMI versions. The high current version supports up to 12A and 13A per contact respectively. Both these connectors support wire gauge range from 30AWG to 16AWG and are available in 2 to 24 circuits for dual row and 2 to 12 circuits (3.0) and 3 to 5 circuits (4.2) for single row respectively. The Blind Mate Interface (BMI) versions of these connectors offer flexible and comprehensive solutions for direct wire-to-board applications and allow ±2.54mm gather-ability for blind mating.

The Minitek® Pwr 4.2 connectors are available with Terminal Position Assurance (TPA), which helps in locating the terminals at the correct position in the housing and thus preventing accidental terminal back out for critical applications, thereby ensuring electrical continuity. The PCIe Gen 5-rated, Minitek® Pwr PCIe® connector system includes 12VHPWR auxiliary hybrid connector and cable assembly supporting 600W GPU cards. Designed for power applications with current rating up to 9.5A per contact with all 12 power contacts and 4 signal contacts, these connectors come with fully polarized housings.

Our wire to board family is also extended with the Micro and Mini Power connectors. Both these PCB mounted connectors are offered in Standard, Plus and Super variants. While the Mini power connectors come with 4.20mm pitch, the Micro power connector offers even more compact connections with a 3.00mm pitch. Standard Mini Power connectors are generally used for power applications that support current ratings up to 9A per pin. The Plus and Super versions have an enhanced capacity with 13A and 20A per pin making them ideal for high power wire-to-board applications.
